A 2001 conversation about a family service station and what is now our former family property started a year's long journey for answers to questions I never asked, taking more than 20 years to BEGIN bearing fruit.
(Don't even ask me how I managed to get my dad Donald Gene Durfee to tell this story in front of a camera. It's been a question I've asked myself dozens of times.)
Since my dad passed in 2007 and the family property was sold I've been trying to gather information about the property where the Durfee Family Service Station & the family Trailer Camp stood.
I've discovered that some clues have been much closer at hand than I thought.
Slid into the back of the photo album were smoke stained technical drawings, pages 1 & 3 of the plot plans for Porter Hollow Vista Trailer Camp, owned by Jesse Lee + Hazel Durfee, Drawn by D.G. Durfee.
These documents had managed to survive a ravaging fire that had destroyed my Dad and stepmom's home soon after their marriage.
